Hey guys! I’ve got a house that I’m remodelling and part of the refit involved removing the existing ceramic tile to the underlayment. I skimmed the floor (after tightening it for uncountable squeaks!) but the floor patch (Stone Mason from HD)left a number of ridges that will “telegraph” through the new vinyl flooring. Any suggestions as to how to smooth the floor without adding more patch? Grinding? Dusty, but the house is vacant (kind of like me for leaving the ridges). Any suggestions from the veterans would be most welcome. Thanks.

If we are talking the same terms, underlayment going over the subfloor....I would remove the existing underlayment and install new before installing the vinyl.
If it's only a subfloor, it still needs new underlayment
You definitely want the surface as close to glass as possible. Even a spec of sawdust will telegraph through sheet vinyl in time. If there is only a slight trowel mark here or there, you can probably knock the top off with an old 6" stiff knife. You can use some floor leveler to feather in the difference.
If it is bad and you can't trowel it smooth I guess you could sand. Make sure the surface is dust free before laying the floor. I think I would wash it with damp sponge, not much water, after a good vacuuming. I don't know what Stone Mason is, I don't buy those type of products from HD. Too much risk.
Beat it to fit / Paint it to match
