To Spray or not to Spray is the question
I recently put cement board siding 5 1/4″ smooth on the exterior of our house and now am at the point of painting. House is already primed which we did with a brush and am very happy with….
If you have followed any of my posts you may remember that I am under the gun as oldest son is graduating and the DW wants the house finished pronto.
I enjoy painting by brush but neice has said I can use their sprayer unit……don’t know size, volume or any specs on sprayer. She just said it worked well for them on their house. She said they paid about $300.00 for the unit. Said it was not a Wagner…..for whatever that is worth.
Primer was white of course and we are painting the house a “Brick red” latex paint. I typically use Benjamin Moore paint if this makes any difference to you.
I am also looking at coverage issues, will I use more paint with the sprayer?
I am looking for pro’s and con’s of spraying. I have never used a sprayer like this before so am wondering what the learning curve is as well.
Thanks for any and all input.

You primed your whole house w/ a brush??
You rock.
What size brush? ;)
Rent--don't BUY--a sprayer. Whatever you rent will be more than sufficient to do the job...A crappy $300 Lowes Wagner jobby won't make you happy anyway.
Red paint has the worst coverage. Therefore, spraying this is your best option (spraying will put the paint on about 2-3 times as thick as brush/roll). I generally get about 150-200 sf/gal w/ my sprayer--vs. 300-400sf/gal otherwise.
Of course, you'll need to mask everything. And don't spray on a day w/ ANY wind. Don't paint when it's too hot either. Don't paint when it might rain in 24 hrs. But for clapboards--especially Hardi--spraying is the way to go.
Does it last as long...somehow I have this thought stuck in my head that if I brush it on that it will last long....maybe it is just a silly idea?
