I’m about to have 1×10 cedar boards and 1×3 cedar battens installed as siding on our new house on Whidbey Island, Washington. Do I have to stain the cedar or can I leave it natural? If I do choose to stain, what are the recommendations?

Source control, ventilation, and filtration are the keys to healthy indoor air quality. Dehumidification is important too.

It is more common in the dry western climates to leave it unstained. Do what looks best to you.
Whidbey Island ain't known for being particularly dry. I would use Red Cedar Penofin and your cedar will look beautiful. Marine grade is best.
