All,
How long should a toilet wax ring last? I know that it is a fairly relative question dependent upon frequency of activity, but what I am looking for is in general terms.
Thanks,

There's a constant source of clean water for you to use, and all you have to do is collect it.

Depending on how tight the toilet is bolted to the floor and how sound the floor/subfloor around the flange/toilet is, years. I've pulled out a few that were a few decades old and were working fine. All bets are off if the toilet rocks or the floor is beginning to rot, however. Even then, though, it can be pretty forgiving stuff. Unless the wax ring is the cause for the rot, lol.

I've pulled up some that were 40 years old and would still be working fine if it wasn't for that 4 gallon tank that needed replacing.
Also seen some fail very quickly because of poor installation or floor issues. As someone already mentioned, a rocking toilet will kill the wax ring in a hurry. Or a broken flange... etc..
But assuming a good floor, good installation, and good toilet, that thing can easily last decades.

Some plumbers can chew the same one for weeks it seems, just like a can of skoal.

Perfect works are rare, because they must be produced at the happy moment when taste and genius unite; and this rare conjuncture, like that of certain planets, appears to occur only after the revolution of several cycles, and only lasts for an instant.
Say that three times..
That was crude Sphere. I don't know any plumbers who use Skoal.

Any thoughts on the longevity of wax rings on radiant-heated floors? I just yanked a toilet for another reason and boy, was the wax soft!
Yet, I can imagine that if the toilet is solid and immobile, that wouldn't cause any more problem than living in southern climates without A/C.
I have radiant floor heat in my bathroom. It's been through 2 heating seasons since the radiant heat was installed. The toilet and wax ring are about 4 years old. I think I got the deluxe model of wax ring that had the plastic funnel piece and neoprene ring inside of the wax. The floor is tiled and very stable. No problems yet.
3 toilets in my house i installed 35 years ago, all still the same wax ring, never a problem.
Pulled the toilet last year in Grandma's house G'pa built in 1907, wax ring still like new, no leaks. Pulled toilet as the brass neck between tank and stool was corroded thru. House had set with no heat or cooling from '74 to '03, when used for storage, plum'in even shut off between '97 and '03. Fired the pumbing back up, wax rings the least of problems, biggest problem letting a house sit that long was rust clogs in the CI pipe.
