At the risk of offending the guy that just asked if FHB had lost its “edge” (which I personally think is crazy; there appears to be plenty of room here for the experts – you guys – and the rest of us like me), I’d like to ask a question about our recently started new home.
Take a look at the attached two pics (and one that shows our land). Are there too many windows in our walkout basement? Obviously it’s too late now to do anything about…that’s why I’m posing this question at 11 p.m. on a Friday after a few beers. I’m just looking for a little male validation I guess.
When my wife and I first started talking with the builder we kept telling him that we wanted to take advantage of the view (we look out on ~50 acres of woods/wetlands). So when we first started revising our internet house plan we found ourselves saying (about the walkout basement) “let’s add another window there, and let’s add another one over there!”. Pretty soon it seemed like we had a window in every available nook and cranny. So guys, for those of you that have the time to address a less than pressing question (and isn’t it time for a few of those after the election!?!?!?), do you think there are too many windows???
Thanks, Rob

What do ya mean............look at all the concrete ya saved............ but seriously it's alot easier to fill in an extra window than to create a new hole later .... also every house I've lived in we added at least one skylight if not a couple of windows.....
my 2 cents ...........Rik...........
My new home that I am almost done building looks very much the same on all floors. In fact, on the first floor (which is very open without any partition walls) and in the walkout basement (same), there is no spot to put a tv or any furniture at all.
We like a lot of windows and our view too. Don't sweat it unless you plan on using the cheapest windows you can find. Then you'll take the hit on hvac bills.

it's a basement ...
you can never have too many windows or too many lights.
for the lighting plan ... make a lighting plan showing how many you think you need ...
then double it!
it'll be close to almost enough ...
as to the windows ... as long as they're enough wall space for any planned furniture ... I say .. the more the better.
Now ... print this out for the wife ... and buy me a case of beer.

The no such things as: too rich, too thin, or too many windows.

"too thin,"
Olsen twins ... yes there is.

strokeoluck,
I like a lot of windows, especially on darker winter days and more especially when a house is surrounded by an expanse of vacant land, even a desert view.
On the other hand, I especially despise washing windows and more especially when I find the first double glazed unit that's beginning to fog.
On balance though, I'll take lots of windows over cave dwelling anyday

Good deal, I feel better. Thanks guys!

While I don't think you have too many windows, I think they might be too tall. As someone else mentioned - it is nice to have some wall to put furniture against.
could always frame up a stub wall in the bottom of a couple of those openings if you need a little more wall space.
Looks like it will be a very inviting basement - good work
it looks fine, no problem.
