I just bought a Dewalt DW660 Cut-out tool at Loews: (this pic from Sears) tablink I haven’t yet used it and now I notice that the same tool is for sale through Amazon link for only a few bucks more than i spent WITH a very nifty looking Circle-cutter and attachable handle and case. I REALLY want to get started with this thing NOW and not order and wait for this tool from Amazon but I CANNOT find the circle cutter or handle for sale separately ANYWHERE! and, of course, once I put this thing to use it will be unreturnable. I’d like to be able to have those attachments in the future but it looks to me like I either buy them now through amazon as they come in full kit… or I do without them permanently. Does anyone know of how I may be able to come by them eventually! Or … am I making too much of the ‘coolness’ of that circle-cutter and handle? (I see that other companies offer various kinds of ‘circle cutting tools’ but, you know, they couldn’t work as well with the Dewalt as one that’s made for it). Any suggestions? thanks, Terry |

I bought the tool, with case and circle cutter through Amazon a while back. Very happy with it.
I recomend you return the one you have and order from Amazon.
Don`t believe me? Here`s a thread I started about it back when:

Wow ... sounds good. (Sorta funny that that post of yours was EXACTLY one year ago to the day!) I think I'm gonna hafta take your advice ... I think it was the line... "This thing worked so nicely, I`ll actually look for other uses...." that really convinces me. Sounds like you really have 'fun' with it.
Dayam ... hate having to wait for amazon to ship ... and hate their high cost for quick shipping. Guess I'll just pay the extra.
Thanks!

Wow....to the day.....thats spooky!
I hadn`t noticed.....thanks....I`ll be up all night now.

Okay ... can anyone poke holes in this plan?
I go ahead and use the one I got. Meanwhile, I've ordered the same item from Amazon but WITH the extra's. When the Amazon shipment arrives I remove just the main tool, place it in the box of the one I'm using that I got from Loew's and return it to Loewes for my money back. I get to begin my job NOW ... I get the extra strap, case, circle-cutter ... and Loews gets a perfect, identical, and unused Heavy Duty Cut Out Tool! Woo-Hooo! Problem solved!
(dayam! - - - now why didn't that occur to me earlier!)

Any chance they`ll check the serial number on that?
And is ya absotively sure its the very same tool? The old rumor that the Big Boxes carry a second tier line comes to mind.

I'm checking out the stats on them both, as far as I can, right now. [I truly would NOT undertake such a move if I thought it was 'fishy' or that someone would end up 'cheated' somehow.] What I bought from Loews is a DW660 in the Dewalt box EXACTLY as it is described on the Dewalt website and at several other sources I've checked. And what Amazon describes and shows is the same thing in every apparent detail EXCEPT that it comes as a kit with circle-cutter, handle, and box.... and this 'kit' is also available from several other online tool sites ... at greater cost and not including free shipping.
I think it'll be ok ... (and not unethical). Otherwise ... I'll have an extra to one day 'will' to my sons!

worse comes to worst ...
someone in Lowes down the road get's the better quality tool originally from amazon!

I think that "old rumor" is applicable here, Jaybird. Everything I've ever heard about this is that the big boxes get much better prices from the manufacturers because they're buying by the trainload instead of by the truckload (or less).
If anyone has actual proof of a "second tier" level, I'll eat my portion of humble pie. - lol
I`ve no proof that the quality of the tools is second rate......but I do know that quite often models vary ever so slightly from those you`d find elsewhere.
Usually, it can be determined by closely looking at the model #s themselves. If its not the exact tool, it needs to have a different model number.

What I think you will see at the box stores as well as Costco is packaging to there specs. Tool combinations that you can't seem to find any place else.
I guess I've never paid that much attention to model numbers so I can't say that there's a difference. I know that my Jet 14" bandsaw came with a POS dust collection port when I bought it three years ago and the newer ones have a much better port. Next time I have a chance, I'll see if the model numbers are different.
This question would be a neat article for FHB or FWW magazines.
I heard from Amazon that the second tool is on it's way ... should get it tomorrow or next. I'll check out the model # and suchlike ... see if it really is EXACTLY the same. If not ... I'll have two cut out tools!

I don't see anything 'wrong' with it.
Just try to keep a straight face and dry palms when you face off with the customer service clerk at Lowe's.
Oh, yeah, watch out for standing in that square taped off on the floor. There is a BS detector beam that is aimed on you when you stand on that spot.

The customer service peeps at Blowes don't give a rats #### ...
just trying to do thier job...
as long as your polite and treat them nice they will give you a refund on a box of dog poo...
I think one of the stupidest things is when people go up to a 7$/hour employee and expect them to change corporate policy for your convenience.
ACTUALLY, IT'S QUITE GOOD ON TOAST!
Doesn't AMazon have an overnight or two day shipping option (usually costs a lot more, but may be worth it in your case)?
Doesn't AMazon have an overnight or two day shipping option...
Too late -- I busted into it last night and took my walls down to the studs. When the amazon tool arrives .. I'll return it to Loewes. That overnight or 2 day option is MUY expensive though anyway ... I'm pinching pennies these days.
If you got two digital cameras for your wedding or two identical tools of some kind as gifts and they were both removed from their boxes and passed around and later you went to return one you'd just take the one you hadn't used and return it to the place that was most convenient. Seems like a non-issue really. They're the same exact thing. The one that I place in the return box will be perfect and never-been-used new. Everything else in the box ... paperwork and little doo-dads ... all unopened.

I bought the kit at Home Depot, when they decided they weren't going to carry it anymore. I think I paid $40 for everything.
It's a great tool. I've hung a few hundred sheets of drywall, and used it for all the cut outs. That said, I've never used the circle cutter. The case was thrown away the day I bought it.
