any hints out there from you siding professionals
You can usually find a siding zipper at a good lumberyard, or here's a link to one at Amazon.

around here you're lucky if some crackhead hasn't removed it for you and sold it for scrap... removal tool.... 1 crackhead... cost zero....

That reminds me of driving down a couple alleys in the ghetto years ago. ALL the backsides of the garages that had alum. siding/gutters were stripped clean for blocks on end. Seems the addicts would come by at night & liberate the alum. from the backs of the garages, one after another.Another time I was driving by an old church with a steeple that must have had a 36/12 pitch on it, & was at least 100 feet in the air. All the copper flashing & hips had been stripped off. Absolutely amazing the lengths (& heights) the crack-heads will go to in order to get a fix.
good one lol
I use the vinyl tool, just like with vinyl. Wears them out in short order but works great. Once I get it started I use my hands. When you put it back together it tends to have unbent the 90 at the bottom of the piece so the siding is a bit loose. We take a wooden block and tap the bottom of the siding to tighten it back up. the "unzipper" works ok ...
I think they work better on vinyl.
for aluminum ... I like using a wonder bar. Just work at it slow ... get one seam popped ... then zip away by hand.
last year I unzipped then rezipped a whole gable wall. Had to do some repair work to the framing and couldn't find matching siding ... so had to be real careful.
