Years ago I saw some track lighting – very modern – that I liked and now would like to install in my home. The lights appeared to be low voltage and were laying on two wires spanning from one wall to another. Hope that makes enough sense to create a visual image. Anyway – has anyone ever seen those or know where I can buy them. An on-line search left me feeling very empty and frustrated.

Unless you have a make or model number, that's pretty much how you are going to be left feeling. You can search for hours and still not come up with what you are hoping to find.
Best bet is to try a local lighting supply. Go in and have a peek. Even if they don't stock what you are looking for the proprietor should be able to help you search out what you're looking for.
Helpful as the internet can be, some things still require the leg work.
Good luck.

Dunno about the specific manufacturer, but that style is common, and most any manufacturer has a variety of that track lighting. The first one that comes to my mind is Ikea:

Ditto on the Ikea. They were a bit more popular a few years back Home Depot and Lowes had some too at one point, But any good lighting store should help, get make and model at a high end store then shop on the net. Here is a link to the whole kit for 69.99, can't mail order but you can check on line to see if your store carries it.http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/00135688Wallyo
Thanks - I'm off to a large scale lighting center. Might be enlightening.
Blowes with a bigger track lighting set should carry what you're looking for. I should know used to mfr rep or that line. However, I wouldn't use them myslef., they were a pain in the posterior to keep running within the dispay area....
google "cable lighting"
Try "Kable Lites" I believe that is what Tech Lighting refers to their product as.Tech Lighting . com or brucklighting . com would be a place to start for a higher end product.
Thanks - it also helps to put the request in " ". I just learned that secret.Mike
Try Lightolier.com they have a vast variety of tracks
