I need a hot wire for my trailer’s aux brake battery. The tow vehicle is a 1998 Chevy Astro AWD. Does anyone know of a good resource for wiring diagrams for vehicles?
I have a heavier gauge orange wire in the wiring harness for the trailer wiring in the van, but it is not hot. I would like for it to be hot.
Thanks,
Bryan

Get your hands on the Haynes manual for your van and look in the back, the wiring diagram is right there.
You can find the manual at autozone or the library, etc.

My 99 Tahoe has the information in the owners manual.

dont you have a rear interior light that you can splice the hot off of that? Also you might have a rear power plug for inflators or what ever that you can pull power off of that? If you need more power than that you may have to pull right off the main battery or altenator?
Thanks to all who have replied so far.
If anyone has had this same experience, please let me know.
Otherwise, I'll look into the suggestions given so far.

I think many (most?) of the factory harnesses come with a 12volt lead to the trailer light connector. Take a look at the trailer connector wiring pins at:

Change are you just need to install a fuse in the fuse panel.

There were no empty slots in either fuse panel.

Go to RV.NET, to the towing section and ask your question there.

Thanks, Ozlander,
I posted the question, and already have received a reply from someone who has a Safari. They have pointed me in the right direction. Just need to crawl under the dash again, and find the wire and hook it up.

I figured that's what would happen. A whole bunch a trailer pullers there and most are good old boys.
