I am about to tile a masterbath floor in a new house. The house is under construction so I don’t have to worry about taking out any existing flooring. From what I’ve studied on other forums and books, the cement backer board and thin set will bring the floor up from the original subfloor about 3/4”, then probably another 3/8” for the tile. That will be a total of 1 and 1/8” thickness from the original subfloor. As one walks from the master bath into the masterbedroom, the floor transitions from tile to carpet. My question is will the carpet and padding be thick enough so that the homeowner won’t be stubbing their toe as they walk into the bathroom?
Thanks!!!

Todd-
Nope. With a plush carpet and thick pad you might get 3/4". I've seen carpet guys build up the threshold area with cedar shingles, but that's obviously not ideal. Better is to build up the carpeted area with 3/8" underlayment (a/c ply). Or use a wood or stone threshold.

When I was a framing carpenter, we put down different types and thicknesses of deck (subfloor) depending on whether it would be tiled or carpeted or whatever. The guy who said to add a layer of underlayment under the area to be carpeted had a good idea.
