I have been seeing many homes while driving and in advertising that feature transom windows.
I think the idea is great esp. if they are operable, and I definately like the look.
Having never been inside of one of these homes I began to contemplate wether or not greater than 8′ ceilings are needed in order to have transoms.
While assuming that most of these houses have 9′ or even 10′ ceilings, I got to wondering if you can do it with 8′ ceiling by doubling up the rim joist and hanging the next floor or ceiling or would it look funny to have windows all the way up to the ceiling?
If you used transoms on the first floor would you also use them on the second floor?
Just something I’ve been thinking about.
