Looking for suggestions —
Just finished a house with smooth Hardie lap siding and now the HO wants the fascia wrapped. The fascia is 2X and I can find someone with a brake but which coil. Color is no problem but the HO prefers smooth not faux woodgrain.
When I go to the local suppliers and ask for smooth I just get a blank stare or this smooth stuff is painted you don’t want it.
What is the best smooth coil or just forget it?

FF,
I just don't think you have gone to the right supplier yet.
The big boxes around here (DE) don't carry smooth and their help would undoubtedly give you that blank stare. The professional siding suppliers do, in white and brown always, sometimes in dark green. We have 2 in town, sell only siding, and roofing supplies.
It may be my imagination but the faux wood grain stuff feels heavier / stiffer after bending, probably because of the mini-channels created by the faux wood grain.

Never underestimate the value of a sharp pencil or good light.
Where do you live? Maybe someone here knows of a supplier in your area. Fill out yer profile and we'll see what we can do.
Alcoa is one brand name of smooth coilstock that comes to mind.
i use gutter coil... find someone that runs a gutter machine and he'll have alot of small coils they don't run (end of large coils) u can usually buy them for about the scrap price cause thats where they end up...

If you want, take a look at Alcoa. They have a coil to match just about every major siding manufacturers colors, and more. Something like 150 plus colors and textures. If your going smooth use their 2-layer painted coil,it stays nicer longer. And it's only a couple bucks more per 24" coil. Worth it.
OBDYKE...comes in 24" x 50' rolls...brown/white or grey/white ( be DAM careful w/ the grey white with sunglasses on, in the shade, it is possible to bend a whole coil, INSIDE OUT..but, I dunno fer sure).
