I’m an owner/builder and I’m going to be trimming a bay window for the first time. My plan is to use 1/4″ birch plywood for the recessed panels. Actually, I plan to apply the 1/4″ ply to the whole surface and attach my 5/4″ trim pieces directly on top for the corners and rails. I apologize but I could not find a good photo of what I want the finished product to look like so I hope the description is adequate.
My question is regarding how to apply the 1/4″ plywood to the sheathing underneath. The largest rectangle of exposed plywood will be 7′ wide by 2′ tall. I’m thinking that using some type of adhesive on the back in addition to finish nails around the edges would be wise. Also, I’m not sure if using adhesive will be a problem on top of tyvek or paper unless the wrap is stapled in many places to keep it from bubbling. Lastly I’m wondering if using the 1/4″ negates the benefits of applying a house-wrap at all.
Money or time-spent is not an issue. I just want to do this right (read once).
I searched the archives with nothing specific to this topic. Any experience in how to layer the wrap and trim would be appreciated.

The Tyvek is on the insides of the studs where it wrapped the window opening, right? I would just nail the plywood with finish nails or possibly staples if you have a pneumatic nailer. The trim should cover the nail holes, if not, a little putty colored the finish color will hide them. I suppose, to really do it right, you should do the rail and stile cabinet thing with the plywood floating in dadoes. See what others here say.
