I’m going to be putting in about 20 vinyl windows. (I wish to god that shiney white vinyl was paintable!). I’ve never done it before but it appears to be a pretty simple procedure. I’m wondering what a good outside trim board might be. Something 3 to 5 inches wide or so and an inch or so thick. What is it that I see everywhere that is most commonly used.
Sorry for the boringly basic question. But I’ve looked around a bit at the local yard and I don’t see anything that looks ‘just right’. Thought there might be something really obvious that everyone resorts to. Or something I never woulda thought of.
thanks!

Around here (BC Canada) we use a lot of 5/4 or 2x 4 or 6 combed face primed pine.
One of my builders had his white vinyl windows painted black on the outside by the factory before delivery.

wonder what window company that was. i've asked around some and everyone says "you can have any color vinyl window you want as long as it's white"
thanks
I think they were STARLINE windows, but i think all you realy need to find is the correct primer for the vinyl.
If I recall correctly the primer under the black was a blue colour
Why use a wood paintable product? Does't make sense with vinyl. Use AZEK or other pvc product... will match well and does not need to be painted.
we use composite.. it loves paint, is more decay resistant than cedar or redwood
typically we make our sills out of Trex, side casing out of 5/4 x 4 Miratech and head casing from 5/4 x 6 Miratech
GP PrimeTrim is the same product by a different mfr.Mike Smith Rhode Island : Design / Build / Repair / Restore
Neybuilder,
check with a GOOD paint store. They should be able to set you up with the materials you need to paint your vinyl windows.
PVC or composit trims would be my choice too.

Azek or Koma composite materials may be the best for your application. They are easily cut and worked, require very little maintainence. United makes a tan vinyl window, and some other companies make some off white flavours, but you should be able to find the proper primers to do it yourself at a Sherwin-Williams or a lumber yard paint store. DO NOT go to a big box store unless you know that they have the product you are looking for!!!
Vinyl primer. http://www.dickblick.com/zz010/16c/
this ... the vinyl paint .. looks like a possibility.
This is an Art Supply store, but I'll call them and see if this is also applicable for exterior use.
thanks!

This is definately for outdoors. One shot is THE sign painters paint. Trucks, glass, wood, almost anything as well as for hand applied pinstriping. The primer is water based, but is made to allow painting enamel (which is what one shot is) on vinyl, should work well for latex also.
