I’m installing 3/4 x 3 1/4 brazilian mesquite prefinished flooring in the living room. I’d like to put trim around the hearth mitred on the corners but how do I account for the bevels on the flooring? i.e. how do I match it all up? I’m OK with using the flooring itself or some mahogany stained to match. Thanks anyone for your help

Hi Terry,
I had the same issue when I installed prefinished jatoba (Brazilian Cherry). My solution was scribe and frame the hearth with the flooring, but rather than solve the same problem your wrestling with, I ended up installing the trim on top of the flooring, making a small raised trim detail next to the hearth. I ripped the bevels off the edges to start square, used a 1/4 roundover bit in the router to add some interest and ease the outside corner. Then mitered the three trim pieces (my heart has 45 degree corners and Bob's your uncle. Face nail holes await filling. Pic attached.
Fill in your profile please. Are you in Florida and an MD?
Sorry, I didn't realize there were multiple "profile" input pages. I have added some info, but in short, no and no. I'm in Arizona but I'm a PhD who works on alligators, thus gator refers to the real thing, not a mascot.Cool?
Yo doc - some scribe you did there. I've decided to chicken out and tile up to the hearth with black slate. Grout is easy to scribe. I'll post a pic if I ever get done. Thanks for your post.........and Fanny's your aunt.
