I have a quick question on water heaters.
We have a cabin that has a standard tank hot water heater. I always kill the power to it each time we are gone along with turning off the well pump and shutting off the water from the pressure tank (yes, I’m paranoid). In early may I did some plumbing work, mainly put a shut off valve on the cold water line to the HW heater. Since that time the HW heater has been tripping the breaker occassionally. We were up there for the 4th for a week and one day it kept happening. It has never done it before I made those changes. The day it was doing it continously, I finally shut it off, drained the whole tank and flushed it out good, and didn’t have any trouble with it for the rest of the week.
Any ideas on what may have been ausing this and did I cure it?
Thanks in advance!

element(s) may be shorted out...
when you shut the water off to the water heater (WH) may have drained down some allowing air into the tank and exposed one or both of the elements...
when you turned on the electric the element(s) exposed (not submerged in water) may have over heated and ruptured hence shorting out...
you need to fill the tank and purge the air before turning it on... purge using a faucet and not the T&P valve..
