Using my over-priced and over-rated DW 36V drill today in hammer mode and now can’t get it out of hammer mode. Tried every combination of clutch/ torque/ speed settings to no avail. Bent and ruined several bits trying to finish out the day. Not fun. Anybody experienced similar problems?
Merry Christmas and thanks.

maddog,
Sorry, yet glad to hear your troubles. Had planned to return my own POS and step down to the DW 18v. Think I took too much ego with me to the store when I pkd up the 36. Thanks.
glad to help......DeWalt service would never give me a direct answer as to why their drill only worked for about 30 mins. over a period of about 2 years ...said they had to look at it..... "it could be anything".

They might not know the answer to your question because they do not know.
you can say that again........

And they never will.
When the first ROS came out, I think I purchased the Bocsh 3725 and had a running battle with their service dept. for a year untill they figured out a fix. I returned 4 or 5 sanders roundrobbin, each sander failed after 15 to 20 hrs of use. Long story short, the single screw hold down was not designed for longterm use and kept spinning/stripping out.
there were some heated discussions here badmouthing DeWalt, and subsequently the owner of the tools, but I will say that the older stuff has outlasted my brand new 18V.I still use a 14.4 that was even left out in the rain once....I decided DW ,Bosch, et al, want us to just keep buying the crap.

I actually got the DEWALT service dept. to show me some love today. (1-800-4DEWALT). The gal on the phone claimed that since this is the first generation of the 36v stuff, their engineers are very interested in any problems, and subsequently offered me a brand new drill.
I politely explained that if this one only lasted 6 months, why would I want another? She said that after 90 days, but prior to 1 year, my only recourse is repair, not refund or replacement. (usually).
Maybe she's in the Christmas spirit.
Thanks again to all.
can't argue with free....

That is unless it is free many many times. I had a discussion with a man I knew years about electric drills. He told me he bought from Sears because he had a drill and the shaft which the chuck screws onto broke and he returned it for another. It broke a second time and they gave him another. Finally I noticed that he threw it away. I told him I buy Milwaukee because they never break.
Milwaukee....now yur talkin'.

you have three choices in tools black & decker who make most tools in the u.s or ryobi who make milwaukee ect or expensive German stuff
yep, that is why we should go back to water wheels or steam or something.

The Milwaukee 0522-20 18V 1/2" cordless drills I own were made in Germany.

I own two milwaukee hole hawgs 1 half inch magnum and there right angle drill ive tried to kill all four and I cant ,but the new stuff is not the same a friend of mine has gone throgh two hole hawgs in 12 months, the only thing I know that has changed is that they have being brought out
I noticed the same things and talked with a Milwaukee rep at a show and told both he had DeWalt about it. From what I got from them was competition without saying it. I told the DeWalt man that I don't know of one friend of mine who bought one tool from them who would buy another. He basically told me that they are the leader. One thing I have learned over the years is that quite often the biggest falls because they do not keep keep designing better quality products but instead relies on their past and huge amount of money. Whereas the new guy has a dream and tries to be creative and build a good product. Too often the big company tries to keep what it already has and loses it. There money is what eventually kills them.
Got the new 36v in the mail less than 30 hours after calling the service center. That's tough to beat, but you're right about "free many times". I learned that lesson after one too many trips to the Craftsman counter to exchange ratchets with pulverized teeth, sockets that split like walnuts, and wrecking bars twisted into shapes that were never intended.
don't ya miss the old days......sniff,sniff....

In many more ways than this forum is designed to address!!!
Take the new one, but ask for a full year coverage on it!
all Dewalt Stuff is imprinted with a Manufacturing date... just have to look for it... service center here in NC is more than happy to solve tool problems thats how they make their money...
I'm sorry for the late response...
Hay, I also still use my 14.4 drills and impact drill drivers(Makita) and will continue until they crap out. They have proven themselves reliable for years dispite the cat calls from guys I've worked with who's cordless tools typically last less 3 to 6 months before "issues" arise. Guess who's tools then become the lifesaver.
Most of these guys fall for the latest glam tools that are typically flashes in the pan---currently, RIGID's cordless line IMO. Is it me or do you have to be Arnold schwar... to weld this cordless line. And the usefull runtime for RIGID's line is #!?@.
Truth be told, however, I've also been using my Mil. V28 system for a year and a half(the sidewinder and the sawzall)and I'm very satisfied with it. For me, the 28V drill is still much to heavy for continues everyday use but it also has saved my #### more than a time or two.
