Just bought a used truck with a stick-on type of signing on the doors. Can peel it off with residue remaining. What’s the best stuff to use to remove it? Thanks.

An auto paint supplier will recommend the right stuff. Here is something I used to remove vinyl stick ons from a car body. You can get this at any auto paint store.

Woodgrain and Stripe Remover (24oz. Aerosol)
Description: For removing woodgrain vinyl and vinyl stripes from acrylic enamel surfaces. Jelly-like consistency keeps remover in place on vertical surfaces to promote fast action when sprayed from the aerosol can. Saves on repair and repaint. For removal of adhesive residue follow up with use of 3M Woodgrain and Stripe Adhesive remover (PN08908).
Internet Price: $12.40
Try xylene. Same thing as Goof-Off, but way cheaper. Paint department of hardware store or big box.

I bought a used Snap-on econoline, it had stripes on it. (Trade marks had already been removed) I used a hair dryer to warm up the material, and slowly peeled while preheating ahead. Worked great! Paint thinner (mineral spirits) for any adhesive left behind. Goof-off or similar solvents can sometimes take off/damage more than intended! Good luck.
Rez: WD 40 will remove the sticky mess after you pull off the decal..
if you're asking about the ghost image left behind.......either buffing or rubbing compound can be used. My good buddy bodyman say's there's a time and place for either..depending on the condition of the paint.....so I'd use the buffing first (i think that's the less abrasive)...or hire it out to a decent detail shop.

The company that does my sign work uses an orange (citrus based) cleaner to remove the residue. it's environmentally safe, doesn't eat your paint and removes the residue and ghost perfectly. I had changed phone numbers and had to have my doors redone and that's what they used.Steve
