Decided to replace perimeter sealant in a tub with a tile surround. Was going well using mechanical removal. Then I decided to clean up the residue with a chemical caulk removal product called ‘Motsenbocker’s Lift Off’ purchased at HD. The liquid product ran from the point of application and now I have a faint discolored caulk residue on the perimeter surround of the tub. Looks pretty bad.
This residue is tenacious. Have tried isopropyl alcohol, ammonium cleaner (409), vinegar, and a spray contractors’ solvent (De-Solv-It) with little success. Spot reapplication of ‘Lift Off’ softens the residue somewhat, but just enough that fairly vigorous scraping with a steel scraper will dislodge. This is very tedious and I fear I will trash the finish if I have to pursue this approach.
Tub is a jetted acrylic Kohler Portrait tub.
Any suggestions appreciated.

I have used LiftOff several times, but never had that problem.
Try damping some cloth rag with it and then rubbing.

could you fan the new caulking out to cover the discoloration
Try acetone or laquer thinner. The finish on that tub should not be damaged from either product.
But test it first.
add denatured alcohol and paint thinner to the list before the Lacquer thinner or acetone...
of course, test 1st...
