Ok I know there’s lots of past postings on this. My question, Are there companies that will do a true refinish on tubs and sinks? Too costly? Not feasable?
Thanks in advance,K

If you mean stripand re-apply the porcelin finish, no. That finish is baked on and cannot be done in the home. Your only options are to either apply a spray-on finish - not as durable as the baked on finish but looks nice, or buy a new tub. Spray-on is great for guest baths. Not the best but a decent interim choice for the kids bath.
If you are ripping out the tile and don't know if you should refinish or buy a new tub - buy a new tub.

hanlonk, Had it done to a tub in a home. Looks really good. The company used a proprietary catalyzed product, but heard of others using different one that require a second visit to buff it out. I learned the hard way, If you have shower doors, remove the doors and track before refinishing the tub.
Refinishing is the best way to go if you are saving the old tile and old plumbing.
Last job I paid $400.00 which included a three coat process. This price goes up if they have to fill chips or scratches. Really depends on the condition of the tub. I got a guarantee of 1yr. Not as durable than original but it looked new. Don't be around when it's being done. The smell is unbelievable.
has anybody tried the 'do it yourself' kind of refinish?
I'm not sure of any DIY approach. The company that did mine started with an acid etch first. Not sure if that was what I wanted to do. They later used a spraygun with numerous primer coats and then finish coats.
Friend did a tub and kitchen sink. He is very meticulous. Followed directions but it started peeling within a year. It was tub epoxy.
New York, Long Island $600 inside and out. Looks awesome
