I have a plastic tub surround that’s held on with construction adhesive. Is there an “easy” way to remove it or is crowbar & muscle the only way?

C-4 usually works well.
Fresh out of C-4, do you think napalm would work? :-)
Unfortunately, I was afraid of that. We're going to install tile, so if the wall is drywall or plywood, it will be "rippable". Hardieboard will cover a lot of damage.
Cut the wall material around the old surround and pull it out. Replace with hardy backer.
Wear gloves and mind the edges they can be very sharp!
You are right on. The area should be back to the studs for the backer anyway. Cut it out and install the CBU's.Craig

if it's a thinner one just glued to the wall, they usually just peel off.
