Wondering If I am doing the most efficient job on these two different projects.
When tiling a tub surround:
I use 1/2″ hardibacker, have been using composite screws to put it up, thinking of switching to a roofing nailer and using galvy nails, tape and mud with thinset, and then paint the whole thing with Redgard ( a waterproofing and fracture proofing membrane avail. at HD ). I mud the perimeter of the hardibacker with 20 min fastset mud.
When tiling a shower with no tub:
I purhcase a schluter system shower kit, $400. If I need to I can trim their ready made pan to fit the existing opening. I can have a shower ready to tile in a day.
For a tile floor:
I use kerdi. I used to use 1/4″ hardibacker and nail that down with galvy roofing nails. Kerdi is faster. Kerdi does have its limitations.

Kerdi or Ditra?
.
A-holes. Hey every group has to have one. And I have been elected to be the one. I should make that my tagline.
Sorry, I meant Ditra.
I take a day and do the mud bed with Kerdi.
Any size any shape no problems.
