Tying in porch roof Remove shingles?
Im building a roof for a new screen porch built over a deck. I will be having the roof on the house reshingled along with the porch roof. Both the porch roof and house roof are of the gable variety. Do the shingles on the house need to be removed before I attach the sleepers for the porch roof framing?
Thanks, Bruce

It seems like someone just asked this question a day or so ago--or one very much like it. If you use the "search" feature you may find some answers. If I remember correctly, the answer that made sense was to leave the singles on until you are ready to shingle the new roof, then cut the old ones where the sleppers are and remove enough so you can weave in the new. If I could remember the name of the thread I'd give it to you. Maybe others will respond shortly and give you the real answer(s).
Thanks Danno,
I did 4 or 5 searches before posting and must not have used the right terms. Thanks for the response.

You're welcome--the post I remember went into some detail about how best to do it and the main advantage was it kept the roof intact and weatherproof for the longest time. Maybe the guy who wrote it will respond again. Something is weird because today I can't even find some of the old threads I started yesterday. Gremlins maybe.
WOOD TO WOOD. (if you got the weather.......)
It really does'nt matter IMHO. Throw the old shingles in the landfill or leave them on your roof. Your not gonna save the world either way.
Structurally makes no matter
