The HD around here sells two types of drywall compound.
– All purpose
– Light weight all purpose
Both say they are for the same applications. The lightweight says it is lighter (da) easier to apply and sand. They both cost the same. Is there any reason not to use the light stuff. Is it harder to smooth or something.

I use it for the finish coat. It is easier to apply, easier to feather, and easier to sand when necessary.
I use the all purpose (green box and green bucket) for the taping coat, and the first coat or two.
If I need to speed things up, I use a setting mud (usually 45 minute).
Just my opinion...

*Same here. The light ezsand is easier to scratch or ding before you paint it too so plan to prime immediately. It is smoother applying though.
*Could someone please explain to me what USG's Midweight is for ?
*Used for taping tools, bazooka-looking things.
