Starting a small addition and will match existing beaded cypress lap siding. My question is what type of house wrap. Recent article in Fine Homebuilding indicated Tyvek “Drainwrap” or similar was best under wood siding. The Drainwrap is not stocked by HD or Lowes, although one local custom supplier can order for about $190.00 a roll. What is typically being used under this type of siding ? Thanks.

Thats cheaper than we paid for our last rolls. We paid $250 per 10' roll. We installed it under DRyvit.

The drainwrap works well. I actually have a bunch of product samples from when I edited that housewrap article. If you want, I can send them to you and you can decide for yourself.

How easy is it to stick Straightflash, Flexwrap, Vycor, etc., to the Drainwrap?
You know, that's a pretty good question that I don't have an answer for...
Keep in mind though, Drainwrap is basically regular tyvek that is wrinkled up like an accordian. Teh downside in my mind being that the ridges aren't very, well...rigid. It might be easy to flatten the accordian grooves out of the wrap when installing the siding.Justin Fink - FHB Editorial
I got to use some of the stuff at JLCLive. There's a learning curve to installing it. Don't stretch it tight as you do regular Tyvek. Use a laminate roller, like Gary Katz and Bill Robinson show in the rainscreen wall article in the current JLC, to adhere flashings.
And please, before installing wood siding, get the installation handbook pdf from the Western Red Cedar Lumber Association - http://www.wrcla.org.Andy

That would be great, I just need enough samples for about 240 sq. ft., LOL. I think it is worth my time to find this product, the big box suppliers just are not very helpful. E-mail me at [email protected] and I will give you my address. Thanks for the reply.

I saw it at the International Builders Show and discussed it with the rep. Looks like a great concept!
Haven't had the need for it yet so not sure how hard it is to find in my area.
