I am using Ultralite MDF to make a sliding keyboard tray inside a supporting frame. It will replace two side-by-side drawers in a desk; the tray will be 34″ wide.
This MDF does not have any plastic laminate, so I need to surface the tray with something smooth and durable. I have some 1/4″ birch plywood–would this be suitable, and how should it be attached to the MDF?
Coincidentally, the MDF blends in almost perfectly with the desk. Color-wise, there is no need for painting, but should it be sealed to add dimensional stability? Assuming that I should avoid water-based products, what sealer should I use, and is it applied to all surfaces or just the cut ends?
