From building boxes and fitting face frames to installing doors and drawers, these techniques could be used for lots of cabinet projects.

"Now the maintenance cooperative is planning to shoot at least 50 woodpeckers within a week."
Uneffingbelievable.
The cost of a guy waiting with a gun would be ridiculous and next to impossible to hit without further damage.
Why not set up water cannons with motion detectors, a couple of blasts and the woodpeckers would peck decks instead ;+)
ANDYSZ2WHY DO I HAVE TO EXPLAIN TO FRIENDS AND FAMILY THAT BEING A SOLE PROPRIETOR IS A REAL JOB?

There have been threads on how to handle them.
Same problem with my sisters house.
They found the foil balloons to do the trick.
I am all for hunting so long as it is a game animal and something I am going to eat. Woodpeckers are not on my diet and if I want to practice shooting things flying thru the air, I will go skeet shooting. (more nutritious than woodpecker too)
Amazing that with all the differing opinions on hunting, that someone would even concider this as a viable solution. Doesnt sound like a responsible solution to me.
Woodpeckers are protected by the Federal Migratory Bird Treaty Act as migratory, non game birds.
Besides killing a few won't stop them, its like people they keep coming back.......
That's going to be a adventure.
I stopped them on my house with metal capping, they could not hold on to start wood pecking!

A church we attended had this problem. They installed a battery operated machine in the area. It senses the noise from pecking and a big spider pops out.
I've heard this called a startle response. When an animal starts a behavior that you want to stop you startle it. So a fixed object like a plastic owl they get used to and aren't startled.
It has to move or startle them.
Here's the product they installed. They put it in a little sheetmetal house near the top of the wall to protect it and keep it out of sight.

That article really irritates me. Put up a startle machine and put woodpecker feeders up away from the houses.
