I am in the very EARLY stages of designing my house. One thing I know I want is a used brick fire placemantle on the inside.
Does anyone have any suggestions on where I could find some used brick, I am willing to clean it myself?
Does this make senses? Is there any cost savings to do this as opposed to just buying a palate of used brick from a supplier?
thanks

Used brick is no good for fireplaces where heat will explode the brick so easily/
Used brick is no good for walkways where rain turns into ice and explodes them.
Used brick is very fragile

ndy is right about certain locations for the bruick, but if you have real firebrick for the inside and the chimney is flue lined with clay tiles, then you can use used brick for the facade of the fireplace facing into the room where it is not subject to intense heat. Then, it just depends on the quality of the used brick.
You should also be aware that some old brick can carry with it, a lot of lead in the attached dust.
But I have some. Where are you located?
