Once again ….a trip to the Used Tool Supermarket ..the Hamilton Tool and Supply I’ve mentioned here before….paid off.
Made the drive up on Wed ……called first to check the stock…..
wanted a metal cutting chop saw for the steel stud basement I’m starting….
Sure we got one….have a coupla and one real nice DeWalt….
Checked against the handy-dandy Tool Crib price checker…
New….TC wanted $220…..
I got it slighly dirty at $120.
Not a bad deal. Fired it up once at the store to make sure the blade turned….
Haven’t cut with it yet but all their stuff has worked just fine so far…..
Looks like someone bought it for one job and left it in the truck or garage….
has slight rust marks on the spring and on the hold down threads…..
Little bit of DW40 should make it look brandy-new.

Way to go!
Last Christmas my FIL gave me an old Black and Decker Industrial metal chopsaw. With a new blade and the test cut piece still clamped in place.
That'll make butter out of those steel studs. rg
I would insert a Dewalt joke here...... but nah.
Who Dares Wins.
the last time some DeWalt bashing was going on...
and when some dude again said he'd give his "yellow piece of crap" tablesaw away....
I ..again ....contacted the guy .....different guy...same old story...
Said my brother near his house..out in Ca ..would stop by that weekend to pick it up....
that's been about 2..maybe 3 months....the guy hasn't answered my brothers emails as to getting dircetions!
Seems lotsa guys wanna bash ....and even spout off about throwing their DeFault junk away ......but so far ...I've tried 3 times....and all three somehow manage to hold on to their "piece of crap" ..that they had such good internet-intentions on giving to the first jerk that stoped by.
Funny how that works?
Any hoo ..the saw will get a full workout by the end of next week....
I thot the yard was gonna deliver my framing package the usual way ...in the big box truck with 2 happy to deliver kids....
I got one flatbed loaded down with one flatbed driver willing to dump where it was convient for me.....said dumping right into the basement would be a little tricky...
So yesterday me and my lonesome humped the 400+ studs .....600 or so ft of track .....3.5 bunks of dow board ....
and about 400 lin ft of pt 2x4 and 6 up thru the yard and into the house....
Only good thing ......the bulk was steel as opposed to wood.
I've had waited till I had a coupla rentaguys if'n it was wood.
still took 3 hrs ...no breaks!
Had to be the day I'd promissed the wife I'd cut out "not too late" and make the drive in time to pick the boy up at daycare .....
the driver helped me move quicker by showing up at 1:30 instead of the 11am I was expecting....
Made daycare with 15 min to spare.....sweating like a pig!

I don't, the juries still out on Dewalt with me. But you did get a good deal.

Sounds like a good price, but even the Ryobi POS 14" chop saw we have at the shop does a hell of a job, it's not exactly a very complicated type of tool.
I'd even by the Dewalt at your price, and I am one of those who curse the name.
Never be afraid to try something new. Remember, amateurs built the ark, Professionals built the Titanic.
NEIL!!! That sounded like you giving tacit approval of a Ryobi tool!!!! ; )Any jackass can kick down a barn, but it takes a carpenter to build one.
with my head hung in shame, I'd buy it...
well probably not, but it would be seriously considered if the price was a lot cheaper then a more respected brand....

Jeff- this a new one on me. Where's this store located? Web site for multiple stores?

I bought one at Blowes 2 weeks ago for $200. I found that when I cut 2" angle on a 45, it deflected the blade into the table....so I have a few extra kerfs in my top..DOH!
One of my guys won that Dewalt ultimate shop in July at Carter Lumber(we went for the contractors lunch one day, at lunch we BS'ed with others and entered the contest) 2 hours after lunch, his cell rings and he gets the good news. I excuse him to go get the booty. He comes back with a 12" sliding mitre and stand, 10"table saw and stand, 18V combo pack(saw, sawzall, hammer drill, light, and 7.2v screwdriver, plus the radio charger. Sooooo, I treied the sawzall, fall in love and find the combo pack new on e-bay for $320, so I buy it(came yesterday) and bought the radio at HD(ya know to charge the batteries and jam) I'm a Dewalt basher, err, or was, but that sawzall jams...beats the Milwaukee 18V all to hell. So now I have a Milwaukee 18V combo set, that may get sold on e-bay.
Today I broke down and went to TSC and got a metal bandsaw. Cheap China unit (Clarke), but it actually cuts real well.......thinking of building choppers instead of houses...new career maybe?
when I get my digital cam in the next coupla short weeks I'll send ya a bunch of pics of the latest bike my brother in law is building.....
it's currently in their BR on a stand for a partial mock-up!
He got a '47 flat head from some German engineer/mechanic dude in NYC that was totally rebuild .....looks better than showroom condition....
and he's sticking that old motor into a brand new Santee hardtail wide tire frame.
Think it's 230 series.....it'll have a Del Orto double pumper and solid state ignation ....most everything that'll get bolted onto that old motor will be state of the art.
Should be one unique ride.
Here's a little pic from my little cam phone.....

BTW ...I'm eyeballing a coupla 2000 Buell S3T's at the moment...
might decide to make the drive down to Fla to pick up my favorite after the current job ....sometime early Dec....
The S3T is their sport touring model ...with taller fairing....small lower fairing ..and hard bags ......
I'm thinking which ever I get ...IF I get .....it'll need a complete tip to tip flame job......one where the flames match up with the bags on or off .....
here's a pic of one of them to get ya thinking.......Buck Construction Pittsburgh,PA

Nice scooter....I can see flames for sure. I'm not so sure about that front fairing though.....a little too much old school cafe' racer for me.
I don't envy you cutting steel studs in a basement with a chop saw. To much noise and toooooo damn many sparks for inside. Doesn't bother me, but when a customer sees it, they kind of freak. I always do steel in basements though, for the same reason, hauling them down steps. treated plates on the floor, zip walls together on floor, and stand up on the plate, fast easy, simple and painless.
got 1/2 the PT plates down today......
will do just as ya said.....build...lift 1.5" ....and stand.
I do have a nice sized concrete pad out the french doors to cut on .....have to decide if the neighborhood or the basement in general will handle it best. Will probably go inside with the trusty ear muff's on ......
hardly heard the REm gun inside the shooting gallery today.
What???

>>>I do have a nice sized concrete pad out the french doors to cut on<<<
Just be sure to clean up the steel dust real good from that patio -- it'll rust and stain it good.
you saying that should be an up-charge for the random pattern stained concrete?
Now we're talking!

All:
I'm a fan of yellow plastic myself, so you all can bash me if you want.
Keith:
re your new career, I think you have been watchin' too much TV. Wouldn't it be nice to be a machine artist though... It's amazing the way they work that sheet metal into the "tin" parts.
If you start the biz, and I hit the lotto, I'll come up for a test drive and we can talk about you building me one in Irish green...

How about giving us a shot at it here in the reader classifieds first? I might be interest4ed, depending on what's in the combo.Winners can tell you where they are going, what they plan to do along the way, and who will be sharing the adventure with them [Dennis Waitley]
