Just wondering what some of you would recomend as good reference material for building design, mainly calculating loads per linear ft, and tables for built-up and solid timber beams, engineered beams, steel beams, etc. Is there something like “Building Engineering for Dummies”? I’ve got some of the major tables we use here in Canada that gives me max spans and limits for different members, but I’m often finding stuff or needing more precise info (such as load capacity per foot and equivalency for solid timber vs. built up 2x beams)that isn’t in these tables. I’m not looking to put my engineer out of business, I just like to be able to think through things and understand them myself! Thanks in advance.
