I have a large supply of 3/4 T&G OSB.I am getting ready to build a new home and would like some input on using this material on my roof and or walls. Should I be concerned about expansion and contraction in the roof even with the use of a good ridge vent.Should i rip the tounge and or groove off and seal the material.Or should I just use it on the interior floors, sell the remainder and buy what I need? I have enough material to build the whole house and would like to use it.Thans for your opinion.

Dave,
Go for it! As far as i know OSB does not have the movement of cdx plywood where spacing is required! Just make sure its an exterior grade. No spacing required on OSB. As far as gluing, waste of time as far as I'm concerned. ost sheeting coming loose is from lack of nails or miss nailed. 3/4 OSB in my opinion is an overkill, but if you already have it and its paid for I don't see a problem with it!
Curious, how did you end up with enough 3/4 OSB to do the whole house in the first place?
Mark
*Pretty much ditto on chisel head's response. I am not a big OSB fan but this is the cream of the crop. You'll have a stronger than average roof, stronger and thicker than average wall sheathing, and well, an average or in my own opinion, worse than average floor surface, but if it's going to be mostly carpeted, that's fine. Or, a great 1st lam in a 2 layer flooring system.Yeah, how did you get all that, hijack a flatbed?MD

Thanks for your input Chisel Head. A friend runs a salvage co. that buys ins. claims. I got a great deal on it and couldn't buy 1/2 for that price so I bough enough to do a house, garage, shop, and small barn.Even a blind pig finds an acorn.

the only problems I can think of are:
1.if you are ordering windows with jamb extensions they will need to be a non-standard size.
2.you may need to build the trusses or rafters a little beefier to handle the extra wieght.

*OSB does have to be spaced (gapped) at edges. Don't make the mistake of driving the tongue and groove absolutly tight either. You can also order your trusses designed for 32" centers.
