Is it bad for the GCFI (the black and red buttons on an outlet) to turn off power in a room, I would like to do that for my shop for extra saftey, but I’m not sure if it’s good for the outlet

Just have the outlet switched.
No,it's not rated as a switch.

You could just put in a 20A switch next to it, to cut off power FEEDING the GCFI.

You're not confident to add a switch? It's not difficult. Just make sure you're familiar with how to do your connections securely and you're all set.
yeah, I know how to add switches, I just don't need one that badly
