I have to take my van to a Chevy dealer for a recall. It is a 2004 Chevy Express 3500. I have a local mechanic I use for service whom I trust, but dealerships are another thing. Without emptying my entire van, how would you secure the back of the van? All the door keys are the same, which is typical. I really don’t want to put those ugly round padlock things on the outside. I have a panel, with a locked door, that separates the seats from the back. I thought about jamming pieces of wood in the slide locks on the inside of the doors, the going through the door in the panel, then locking it.
Any tips, tricks I’m not aware of?
John

unload what you don't want to lose?
....that's what I'm trying to avoid.View Image
just unload what you don't want to loe then...Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming<!----><!----><!---->
WOW!!! What a Ride!Forget the primal scream, just ROAR!!!
What is the recall for the express? We have one as well.
As for the stuff in the back I'd either put on a van clasp (the padlock you don't want) or remove your stuff.
If you call the dealership they're going to tell you they will not be responsible for any of the contents in the van.

have your local mechanic install a different lock for the back door. Then don't give that key to the dealership. As you drop off the van, let the dealership service manager see you taking photos of the interior of the cargo area...
Why not let "youre guy" do the work + send the bill to chevy??
Sit in the van while the guy does the work. Even better, sit in the van with your doberman while the guy does the work.
I have the same van and the dealer has been hounding me for maintenance and other income generating ploys. My belts work fine...sorry i cant trust em. stinky
Put those ugly locks on your van. You won't be sorry. I didn't want to have them on my van either. Guess what? Some SOB broke in while I was at Home Depot and got me for about 2 grand. I put those locks on real fast. Your post did say van security, didn't it.
Yea.....I think Home Depot sells them, too...... I'll check it out.View Image
We have an 04 3500. We did the recall....dealer wanted it for 2 hours. We waited and it only took 20 minutes. Our seat belt latches were sticking.John

Those ugly round locks are great. The only problem I've had is leaving them on the corner of the bumper while loading and unloading, and then driving away. Lost a couple that way. I suppose that you could lock it onto half the shackle, but then you can't close the door between trips to the van.
