Hey all,
I would like to build a sliding drawer type tool box for the floor of my newly purchased mini van. I have a vague recollection of someone on Breaktime describing the one he built but my searches have not come up with it. My idea thus far is roughly a 4’x’4’x1′ plywood box with 2 drawers in it. Then attach 4wheels to the bottom and 2 in the back of the top of the drawers that would ride on the top of the box as the drawers are extended and gravity takes over.
I have seen the ready made ones on line and they are out of my price range as are the heavy duty drawer sliders I saw on Rockler.
Has anyone seen the post I am talking about or know of plans for this type of thing?
Thanks

I made exactly that, maybe 6" tall for my side door access. Just OSB case and wood drawers. No hardware at all, just friction.
I chose the height due to having the 4 metal drawer unit from American Van in the rear. That leaves a well between to rear of the rear unit and the side of the side unit, that plastic crates and flat tool cases lay in very well.
I can get a pic, but the van is a mess at the moment.

One of our employees made a drawer for his pickup box using old garage door tracks and rollers for his drawer slides.
I agree with Sphere. No bigger than the drawers will be You shouldn't need any hardware.
If you fill in your profile (click on your name) somebody near you may give you a set of hardware.
If you are near Renton, WA, have a set of slides for a 4 ft rollout from a motor home, would be just the ticket.
Not what you're asking, but with my minivan (2001 Honda) the threshold of the rear door is too high for a slide-out, and I didn't want something permanent anyway. What I did is build a folding shelving unit that fits on the left side (left just seems to be the side I usually work from). I take out the left middle seat, fold down the rear seat, install the shelving unit, then I can slide a Little Giant style ladder in between the shelves and the seat, toss my heavier tool bags, luggage, and buckets of junk in the back, and use the two tiers provided by the shelves for cased tools, smaller bags, etc.
I use this rig mostly for my church work trips south. I can load up the van to the gills in 30 minutes, unload it back into the garage in 15. When folded up the shelving takes up very little room in the garage.
What no pics?
I think I posted a couple of pics about Feb 2008. Don't have them on this computer.

Thanks for all the ideas thus far. Sadly, I live in NH so I won't be dropping out to WA any time soon! Love the garage track idea. I have a ford windstar and there is no threshold in the back.
The friction idea would make things easy from a design point of view. I could leave it open on both ends and if need be I could push it into the van and get at it from the side doors. I like this idea because I could just put the bigger stuff on top...chop saw and stand, shop vac, table saw, and put the sheet goods on the roof rack.
I did snap these pictures of a couple of guys' setups on a bike trip way back in ought-seven:

I saw one of those Van Toolboxes online at Rapid Tools Direct , I will put the link here for you to have a look at, they are made by a company called Armorgard, hope it helps.
I ordered stuff from http://www.rapidtoolsdirect.co.uk/ but they never delivered it and they scammed my credit card account.
http://www.rapidtoolsdirect.co.uk/ sells cheap Chinese immitations.
Except that the garge door opener takes up a lot of room, and there's nowhere to plug it in.
Use a screw drive and attach it to the driveshaft.
