I am working with a customer who has MCS (multiple chemical sensitivities). He cannot tolerate poly vapor barriers or 15# felt. Any ideas what I could use. Anyone used Tyvek or Typar (I am not sure if he’s sensitive to these or not). Many thanks for the ideas.

Ted:
That's an odd one, but it doesn't surprise me at all these days. I'm hoping you followed Mr.Warrens recent discussion filled with photos on what seems to be identical? I'll take a stab at this one for one suggestion.
Use an overabundance of bostiks best urethane adhesive, which is designed for many different hardwood floor gluedowns, and nail the plywood as Greg suggests in his photos. It could get darned expensive, but an option? Bostiks is a darned good moisture "barrier"
*Ted,try useing rosin paper, the pink paper meant to go under wood floors.Vince
*Thanks for your prompt replies, Ken and Vince. Unfortunately, this customer test out sesitive to both rosin paper and Bostik urethane adhesive. Shellac seems to be one of the few things he can tolerate. Is shellac a good vapor barrier. When I think of shellac finishes on old furniturer, I think of white rings on table tops where someone has set a cup or glass with a moist bottom.
*TedShellac is a good mositure barrier, but it is very poor water barrier.
*Ted:He must be sensitive, as I don't even notice any odor from the Bostik stuff. It's urethaned based but doesn't emit the odors like that of the many polyurethane finishes. You could always contact the people at nofma.org. or use a vinyl underlayment?
