Vapour Barrier Around Pot Lights

I am installing pot lights in an insulated ceiling and am looking for suggestions on how to install the vpour barrier around them. The pot lighs are rated I/C for insulation contact. On person has suggested only having the vapour barrier taped to the pot light fixture where it meets the drywall with no vapor barrier above. I feel that there must be a more energy efficient approach and am looking for advice.

Use Air Tight cans.
Unfortunately I already have the cans and they are not airtight.
Build a box around them, with rigid foam. Use spray foam or polyurethane caulk to stick everything together.

Or build a box with DW scrap. Same spray foam glue.

I'm with Dave on this, foam boxes sealed and installed over cans.

ps: don't walk on them when installing insulation, I know they wont hold up.
