Hi all,
I’ve recently removed the cement board & plaster wall in the dining room of my 1950s era brick home. The outside walls are an outer course of brick and an inner course of cinder block. Between the cement board and plaster that I removed and the cinder block is a heavy tar paper vapour barrier, that has several tears and perforations from my demolition (see attached photo).
My question is regards what I should use as a vapour barrier to replace this tar paper as it’s no longer usable. The new wall I will be putting in place of the cement board/plaster is raised panelling. Given that the walls will be wood, can I use a plastic vapour barrier? I fear the new wood panelling would not breath on the backside if I used plastic.
Also, I have about 3/4′ between the panelling I will be installing and the vapour barrier/cinder block wall. Is there any type of insulation I could add in that thin space, which is essentially the width of the strapping?
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
