Velux has a wonderful free download. It is amazing the quality and power available in free downloads today.
Google Sketchup is one, and this new thing from Velux is another.
With it, you can build 3D room models, outfit them with windows and skylights, decorate with floor coverings, furniture, etc., set your location so it knows your sun angle, and then make a movie of the simulation as the room goes from dawn to dusk, in smooth high speed animation.
You control everything. The purpose of the simulation is to show the lighting and shadow effects with these great new holes in your roof, all outfitted with Velux units, of course. Velux does not do windows, but they make it possible to model the rooms with windows included.
Thinking about it, it would not have made sense for them to just have roof hole potentials with the software. Most all rooms getting skylights have windows.
If you do remodeling, doing dormer bumpouts, skylight additions, etc., this is a great way for you to let your potential client see the impact of the change, as far as daylighting goes.
It may even get you some work!

It sure does, Paul, but the "make movie" thing is much cleaner in the Velux thing.
And the Velux package is a freebie, and may be of great benefit to someone who does room bumps and roof holes, but doesn't have something like SoftPlan, Chief, etc., now.
