Two questions to anyone with experience installing a 14″ rigid Sun Tunnel:
1. Is attic access absolutely mandatory to install? Can the tube be inserted pre-taped from the roof? (I saw a comment to the contrary in another post here, but was almost 5 yrs. old)
2. In a north facing roof, if I install so that the dome is about an inch below the ridge, will I be sacrificing much light? (My south side is facing front of house, and very shady anyway. )
Many thanks.

It can be done.
I have installed them without getting in the attic, but both times it was a case of cathedral or vaulted ceilings - very short runs. It is easier to deal with lining everything up when in the attic, if it is at all possible.
You will lose some light, but it will still be impressive how much you still get.

SUN TUNNEL Skylight installation
Hello Brad7945. Our current TMR/TGR rigid SUN TUNNEL skylights don’t require attic access and our installation instructions can be found online at the link below:

These instructions illustrate how to assemble and install the SUN TUNNEL skylight without going in the attic.
Regarding your question about installing about an inch below the ridge on a north facing roof, this will not sacrifice the amount of light coming through the SUN TUNNEL skylight. Our TMR 10” and 14” SUN TUNNEL skylight flashings are pitched so the openings are always pointed upwards. Therefore, these products capture just as much light no matter what roof orientation the product is installed on, as long as no other obstructions prevent the light from entering the SUN TUNNEL skylight.
I hope that helps.
