This has probably been addressed in the past sometime, but here goes. I have two clients with septic tank systems, when the trade winds blow, strong odors are drawn into the lanai and bath widows. No wind or wind from another direction, no problem. Three of the four vent pipes are on the leeward side of the roof, with the kitchen vent right at the lanai opening. This lanai is recessed back into the house, so there is a low pressure area formed here during the trades. The trades blow a lot here. Is there any way to stop this, is there a problem with the piping set up? I remember from my Tahoe years that chimneys need to be near the same height at the roof ridge to vent/draw properly, could the same be needed for vent pipes?

A plumbing supplier should be able to sell you charcoal filters that fit over the tops of the vents and prevent odors.
Mahalo, I'll check with my plumbing guy.Never fear the want of business. A man who qualifies himself well for his calling, never fails of employment.
