Anybody out there had extensive experience venting exposed rafter tails? I’m clipping on lower story mono trusses onto indented upper story wall line back 10 feet. Decking is t and g as entire exposed underside of roof is very visible. I need a slickCLEAN way to vent it all at the lower wall line as well upper. I assume some type of coravent or eq. could be sandwiched under the wall flashing above but what could happen at the lower wall line within the confines of truss blocking. SOMEBODY must of handled this over and over on new bungalows or Pacific Northwest architecture..Midget louvers plastered into the vertical finished blocking is not an option—-I’m looking for something tasty… Woody

There is a CoraVent kind of thing that doubles as a drip edge. Not sure how good it works.
Dope slap! Forgot that this won't work on open eaves.
This wouldn't work on open eaves? So if I have eaves like the eaves posted below, this Coravent wouldn't do the trick?
3 inch round louvered plugs,aluminum.

just another day in paradise
The thing I was thinking of is a drip edge that has vent slots cut in the underside of the edge. You cut back the sheathing slightly and/or leave a gap at the top of the fascia and it vents through there. But this assumes closed soffits.
Probably the best bet is to drill holes in the blocking between the rafters and insert round vent plugs.
Here ya go. I did mine as shown in the pic. A cor a vent s400 strip goes atop the 2x10 beveled edge frieze block (the tails are 2x8s), and you can see how I used 1" strips plus "pans" of scrap 7/16" OSB to make "vent chutes."
We used 3/4 t&g pine for the exposed sheathing, and were careful to make the roofer use short nails at the overhangs.
If you like I can post a section drawing with notes.
Bob- thank you sooo much for the input and I would love to see the X section- I'm not clear on the 7/16 scrap chute but can only assume it is serving as a baffle to keep insulation out of the vent- yes? Has it been your experience that the coravent has enough flow to convect not only the lower intake at frieze line but to not clog out in the upper vert. wall line in the horizontal 4/12 rake under wall flashing? Your diagram is EXACTLY what I'm doing with scabbed on 2x10 tails, 1/2 round, under decking of 1/6 t and g- then 5/8 decking over to give roofer some depth nailing. Since it becomes less important for sq. inch of vent to volume ratio-i.e venting every bay in a cathedral stick framed roof- the flow of air will be through the webs of the truss' as well... any more input would be greatly appreciated as you are one of the only responses thus far..............glad to have your help..........Woody
Here you go, Woody.
