Since I bought this house I have noticed that my master bath has to have a venting problem, it smells of sewer gases at times. it has a tub, toilet, shower, two sinks. how do I figure out which where my problem is.
also I’m putting in a new bathroom in the basement I’m concidering using AAV’s to vent the line. my plan is to place a tee in the exsisting 3 inch line one sine will have the toilet the other side a sink and shower. whats the best locations for AAV’s

Is there water in all of the traps?
check the sink and overflow drains - they sometimes get stuff growing in them with ugly smells.
Do you get gurgling in any of the fixtures when other fixtures (esp toilets) are operated?
I say replace the wax seal on the toilet. Sometimes they leak gas but not water. I don't understand this, just relaying what I've seen. It will only cost you a buck or two to find out.
Another thought: you don't have an air admittance valve under the sink do you?
What you may be missing is that the trap is IN the commode and the wax gasket is below that trap, therefore gas CAN vent by it if it is failed. (G) Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks
Generally the water won't leak unless the line is backed up, a rocking toilet may break the seal but still leaves a defacto funnel for waste. The gas however can get out.

At HD on the shelf!
well you did want the best location, nothing would be better than connecting a vent to the vent that goes through the roof.
But you probably can't connect to that pipe is why you're asking I suppose.
Ideal location is above the flood level of the fixture it is serving in an accessible location that has free flowing air to it.
