Ok, I am nearing the end of my search for knowledge on roofing…
My current dilemma is how to vent this roof when I re-shingle this spring. There is very little attic space, as there is mostly finished space up there. The accessible attic areas have foam sprayed beneath the roof deck, so eave-ridge venting is not possible. one exception to this is the area above the four front windows. This area is currently vented by the two gable end vents (6″x6″ ea?) and one roof outlet.
Many roofers have suggested ridge vents, but I’m not sure that is the way to go (except perhaps in the vented are mentioned above).
For the other attic spaces, I suspect there is only a couple of feet of space above the ceiling (at the peak), and half of that will be filled with cellulose when I add some insulation when the shingles are off. My concern with the ridge vent is that there would be a lot of “outlet”, but no “inlet”. I’m not sure what to do about the inlet problem. I could try to put a gable end vent at each end, but I’m not sure if there room to do that that high. And if I did find a way to get a gable “inlet” installed, I would thing a ridge vent would still be a bad idea due to the ratio of inlet/outlet being way off.
Any suggestions?

Sounds like you already have the start of a "hot roof". Do a search on unvented roofs. You may want to complete job with spray foam and have a totally unvented roof.
I have considered that, and have an insulation contractor coming today to look at it. However, cost is a MAJOR issue right now, as I have to pay for the roof as well. Also, not sure if there is really access to spray the underside of the roof w/o taking the ceiling down (which is plaster and NOT going to happen). WIll know more this afternoon, hopefully.
Thanks.
