I’ve been working on patching and plaster repairs in our house we’re renovating and there are a few places I’d like to use a lighter agregate than the sand I’ve been using so far. I decided to use vermiculite, but I want to make sure…is horticultural vermiculite ok to use in plaster mixes- or is the construction-type vermiculite different? Horticultural is the only type I’ve found. Also, what ratio should I be using?
Thanks for any input-

In addition to my previous post... do I need to soak the vermiculite before adding it to my mix?
Thnks again! Gen
Just buy bags of Structolite- it's pre-mixed patching compound with an aggregate like vermiculite.

But what if I'm mixing the lime, gypsum and agregate seperate? I know that I could buy pre-mixed, but I already have all of the ingredients- I'm just not certain if structual and horticultural vermiculite are the same thing- can anyone help me?
