Time to build some cabinets, and I’m on the wrong coast for fir – where can I get plywood and boards near Western MD?
If I can find fir for the frames and end panels, I’m buying the doors from Scherrs.
Otherwise its cherry, which I love, but VGF would look so good in my new house.

For plywood try Roberts Plywood.

Why don't you go frameless and get the whole package from Scherr's?
They'll use fir plywood with a CVG face veneer as finished end panels for anything that shows. Any trim such as fillers, light rail, toekicks, crown, etc., will be furnished by them in CVG fir. And of course, they'll finish the whole thing if that's what you want.
They just shipped me phase one of a whole-house job that has over 100 doors and 50 drawers, and they did all kinds of special stuff. The kind of special stuff I couldn't get from anybody but a completely custom shop. I love working with Leon Scherr.
Drawers are all 5/8 maple, dovetailed, outfitted with Blum Tandem full extension slides and Blumotion dampers. All the cabs with doors are outfitted with the Blumotion dampers.
