I own several apartments. We regularly go over the original “hard surface” vinyl in the bathrooms as we upgrade. Scuff it up good and make sure it’s clean, and we have never had a problem.

*I am almost certain that there is a product specifically for "leveling" textured vinyl so new vinyl can be installed without the texture telegraphing through. Any place that is selling vinyl flooring should have it.Rich Beckman

Is it reasonable to lay a vinyl floor over an existing vinyl floor? If not, what preperations need to be made before new floor?
*Damage/wear/textures from the old vinyl will be telegraphed to the new fairly quickly.
