I recently purchased a twenty-five year old house covered mostly by its original aluminum siding. Parts of the siding while not dented appear to have been painted with a brush using a different shade than the rest of the house, contributing to a ragged appearance.
I priced vinyl siding as a replacement and was blown away by the quotes I recieved. It has been suggested to me that one way to get the price down is to install the vinyl over the existing aluminum siding, elimiating the cost of the extensive demo and prep work on the bids I recieved.
Is there any drawback to doing it this way? Can the existing aluminum just be painted?
Thank you!

I can't imagine anything dumber to do than to put vinyl siding over aluminum. Bite the bullet, spend the bucks and do it right.

Going over the existing aluminum is not what you want to do!!!!
