Whats the sheathing thickness?
If it's 1/2" I like 1-1/2" nails. Saves my fingers from being turned into hamburger.

Never underestimate the value of a sharp pencil or good light.
Is this new construction or existing. If existing, what is on the house now?
A few considerations but 2.5" is common for old work and 1.5" or so for new stuff assuming no considerable rigid inuslation over the sheathing.
