Vortec Cyclone Anyone seen or used one of these things themselves? Looks like it would work, but not completely sold. I’m driving back to Boston from Phoenix in three weeks so I figure I’ll give it a shot seeing how it has a 120 day guarantee. Hope it does cause 2700 miles is a long way and my Exterra swallows gas like crazy especially since I’m going to be pulling a 6X12 Uhaul trailer behind me…. PS. Other than the usual an oil change and airfilter, anything else I can do to “up” my millage? It’s an 02 and it’s been fully serviced by me and the previous owner.

I have a similar product in my truck ( Tornado )
it was +/- $80.
Didn't do squat. Had convincing sales pitch But I would'nt do it again.

Snake oil.

Those things are completely bogus. Use synthetic oil.
If you get one of these you can monitor your gas consumption and alter your driving habits for maximum savings.

I like mine alot.
Almost sounds to good to be true doesn't it?
yep, but with the guarantee i figure i'll just send it back. 2700 miles is a long way, figure anything that might even help slightly will help my bankcard.Jimmy W.
Seriously, if you're trying, and don't mind some aggravation (slow), you can measureably improve your mileage.
Tires (and trailer's) all pumped to maximum (maybe more)Synthetic oil (lower viscosity)Slooooow accelerationDrive like an egg's under your right footCoast down as much as is safeSmoothness above all - look ahead and anticipateMake a game of it, 'cuz it's boring driving!
Look on the net for tips
You know, when you get that trailer, it's going to have a sign on the fender, visible in your side-view mirror that says "Maximum Speed 45 mph"
LOL!
Forrest - could get my old (German) Capri from its normal 21-22 average mpg to 25-27 mpg on the same driving, interstate and around town - dull, tho'
I took the speed limit the entire way here two years ago (had a crapy old truck and was affraid to push it too much) so i'll be fine on the coasting and slow acceleration, i'm used to it. I'm also used to driving long distances, done a few 24hr/multiday drives and more than I can count 8 plus hr ones.
As far as the 45mph...what? Where do they think you're going to be going? I guess it's just so they cover thier own A#S but who knows. Thanks for the advice though, I don't really care how long it takes me, I just wanna keep the costs down as much as possible.Jimmy W.
That was intended to be a joke. The Vortec Cyclone is not going to increase your mileage at all. It's a scam.

I know it was, just trying to convince myself it was worth trying I guess. Too bad too, I was really hoping I could really cut my price by $100. I'll just have to send it back when it reaches my door. Thanks for the links, helped convince me.Jimmy W.
Popular Mechanics did a story on those kind of things a year or two ago and found them all a waste of money

been away from playing with cars and gas gadgets for a while but it doesn't seem like the vortec gen will help by spinning up the air long before it gets to the injectors at the cylinder head just above the intake valve. It might help with fuel from the cold start injector (which only operates at start) but nothing else. Waste of $$$$
I got to thinking, what if you stacked a bunch of 'em up? Pretty soon you'd have to be taking gas OUT of the tank.
