Greetings,
This may sound like a crazy question, but if you’re supposed to wash and waterproof your untreated wood deck every few years to extend it’s life, is there some reason that you’re not supposed to wash and waterproof your untreated wooden shake shingle roof?
I’m serious. I just moved into a house with a wood roof. There’s moss growing on the roof. The inspector said to remove it because it will prematurely age the roof. While I’m up there, it just makes sense to wash it and waterproof it.
FWIW, the roof in question isn’t that high off of the ground, and the pitch is pretty shallow.
Will the washing and waterproofing chemicals hurt the felt that’s under the wood shingles?
Any thoughts?
